Azerbaijan’s authorities have announced significant progress in negotiations to reach a peace agreement with Armenia, marking a potential milestone in resolving decades of territorial tensions.

President Ilham Aliyev expressed optimism by stating, “We are closer than ever” to finalizing a pact that will delineate the common border between the two nations.

Aliyev emphasized that only a few details remain to be resolved and highlighted the strong political will to find a lasting solution. In a recent development, it has been confirmed that the two former Soviet republics are coordinating the 16 key points of the future agreement.

Meanwhile, Armenia’s Parliament Speaker, Alen Simonyan, announced on Tuesday that the 16 points of the draft agreement have been agreed upon and stated that Armenia is ready to sign it.

This declaration follows Armenian Prime Minister Nikol Pashinyan’s remarks indicating that Yerevan and Baku had already reached consensus on 13 of the 16 points and proposed formalizing the agreement while continuing to work on the remaining aspects.

The conflict between Armenia and Azerbaijan has been marked by territorial disputes over the Nagorno-Karabakh region, which unilaterally declared independence in 1991 following the dissolution of the Soviet Union.

The possibility of a peace agreement not only represents a step toward regional stability but could also open new opportunities for cooperation and development between both nations.
